Saltwater reef aquariums with corals, sea urchins and clownfish are
gorgeous! I got the idea of setting up my own coral
reef, but I had no idea what it took to get one started or how to make it
work. I was fortunate enough to find books written fairly recently with
up-to-date information about reef keeping.
The demands of my job and responsibilities at home
have been a blessing in disguise as I have been forced to read books and
learn about corals, tank cycling and what species does (and does not) get
along with each other. I would strongly urge anyone who has an interest
in reef keeping to READ READ READ as much as possible before spending any
money on equipment.
Books - a necessity for long-term success
Much has been written about saltwater reef keeping and it would be
difficult (and unfair) to say that there is a single book that covers all
the information you need to be successful. On the other hand, the books I
have listed below are recent publications and ARE very informative. The
Calfo/Fenner book listed below gives a no-nonsense description of what
invertebrates play nice together and which ones to avoid - one of the
best books any beginner should have.
